Bing is quite possibly going bonkers and the web community is scratching its head.
To get you up to speed, it currently appears as if Google Analytics tools is tracking Bing organic traffic as referral traffic instead of search traffic. Some reports are surfacing 20% declines in Bing search organic traffic with a whopping 200%+ increase in Bing referral traffic. At Rhythm, we’re seeing similar behavior in our own client sites as well.
So what the heck is going on?
We believe this issue is likely the result of some change in Bing’s referrer that Google Analytics has yet to pick up on and is classifying incorrectly. We’re anticipating this issue to be quickly resolved but as of now Google and Microsoft are still investigating the issue and no fix has been announced.Share:
